Before the attacks changed everything, I was dealing with something that at the time seemed huge: my annual sinus infection. On Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, I was laid out on the living room couch of my fiancée Kathy's East Nashville home, drugged up on antibiotics and steroids and preparing to take the day off. We were supposed to get married in four days. I remember her waking me up by turning the television on and telling me that a plane had crashed into one of the towers.
